The Playlist page was designed as a place to help you group together videos and then assign those videos to an individual student, group of students, an entire class, or your entire roster. These assignments will act as a guide to help your students to navigate the Muzology platform and help keep them focused on what subjects you are currently teaching in class.
Creating a New Playlist/Assignment
From the Playlist page, select the "Create Playlist" button to get started creating your playlist. A pop up will appear in which you can create a title for your new playlist. You will then be taken to the list of all Muzology music videos. You can view all the videos by scrolling through the list, or if you know the video's name, simply type it in the search bar located at the top of the "Add Videos" pop-up. You can also use that search bar to find a video that covers a specific concept you are teaching. To add a video to the playlist, simply check the box next to the video you want to add. You can add as many videos as you would like to your playlist, but because each video covers a lot of information, we recommend adding no more than 4 videos to a playlist to make sure your students are not overwhelmed with information.
Assigning a Playlist to an Individual Student, Group of Students, or an Entire Class
Once you've added videos to your playlist, you will then be prompted to select the individual student, group of students or the entire class you wish to assign that playlist to. To assign a playlist to an individual student, you will need to select the class they are in from the Class Dropdown, located in the middle of the page, just under the Students heading. Once you selected the correct class, you will then need to scroll through that class' roster until you find the student you wish to assign the playlist to. Once you have found that student, simply click the checkbox located next to the student's name.
To assign the playlist to a group of students, simply select the checkboxes located next to each student's name. You can also easily assign the playlist to an entire class by selecting the checkbox next to a class' name.
Finally, to assign the playlist to all of your classes, select the checkbox next to All Classes. You will notice when you select the All Classes checkbox, that the checkboxes next to each class name will automatically be checked. You might also notice that checkboxes next to each individual student's name do not automatically populate. This is normal. You do not need to go through and check each individual student's name when you are assigning a playlist to a class or All Classes.
Assignment Messages
Once you've selected the student(s) you wish to assign your Playlist to, you will then be prompted to add an optional message, start date, and due date. Messages are optional but are a helpful tool to give your students some additional context as to what is in the playlist. Examples of messages include: "This playlist is a great review of the content that you will be quizzed on next Friday!" or "Earn a Blue Record on all three videos in this Playlist, and I will substitute that 100% for your lowest homework grade!"
Assignment Start and Due Dates
Start Dates and Due Dates are also optional. To add a Start Date or Due Date to your assignment, you can either type in the date using the MM/DD/YY format, or select the date from the pop-up calendar. You are able to select a Start Date that is prior to the current date, just in case you gave your students a verbal assignment while in class. If you happen to enter a Due Date that is prior to the current date, we will notify you to change the Due Date.
Once you've assigned the Playlist to your student(s), a link to that assignment will now show up on their "Your Recent Assignment" slider on their Homepage. This assignment will also appear on their Playlist and Assignments pages.
Editing and Deleting an Assignment
If you need to go back and edit an assignment, select the Edit Assignment button located next to the assignment you wish to edit. Similarly to when you first created the Assignment, you will then be prompted to add or remove students from the assignment, edit the message, and edit the Start or Due Date.
Editing and Deleting a Playlist
You are also able to make any edits to the Playlist after you have assigned it. To rename the playlist, add or remove videos from the playlist, edit the order of the playlist, or delete the playlist entirely, select the "Edit Playlist" button located next to the title of the playlist you wish to edit. A "Rename Playlist" button, "Add Videos" button, and "Delete Playlist" button will appear directly below the title of the playlist. To remove a video from the Playlist, select the pink X that now appears next to the video you wish to remove. You can also reorder the playlist by selecting and dragging the pink toggle (double line) located next to the video you wish to move.
Adding Students and Classes to an Assignment
To add a student or a class to an assignment, you can either select the "Assign Playlist" button located next to the Playlist title and create a new Assignment, or you can select the "Edit Assignment" button located next to the Assignment you wish to add new students to. You can also assign a playlist or send a message to individual students from the My Students tab by selecting the checkbox next to the student(s) you wish to assign the Playlist to and choosing Assign Playlist from the Action drop-down. You will then be prompted to choose the Playlist you wish to assign, the Start and Due Dates for the assignment, and any message you wish to include with the Assignment.
